On 10th February, the School of Information Technology at Indira University took a meaningful step towards building a more informed and compassionate community through a Thalassemia Awareness initiative. More than just an academic engagement, the session was a reminder that awareness has the power to change lives.
Thalassemia, a preventable genetic blood disorder, continues to impact thousands of families. The session focused on the importance of early screening, timely diagnosis, and preventive measures — simple yet crucial steps that can significantly reduce its spread. Students gained a deeper understanding of how informed choices, especially before marriage and parenthood, can play a transformative role in prevention.
We were privileged to host Dr. Liza Bulsara, a distinguished expert in pediatric hematology, who shared her vast experience and compassionate perspective on the subject. Through real-life insights and practical guidance, she emphasized the importance of responsible decision-making and proactive healthcare. Her interaction with students made the discussion both informative and deeply personal, encouraging them to think beyond themselves and towards the wellbeing of society. At Indira University, initiatives like these reflect our commitment to nurturing not only skilled professionals but also socially responsible individuals. By encouraging awareness-driven action, we aim to empower our students to become advocates of preventive healthcare and contributors to a healthier future.
“Extending Love and Support on IGI Foundation Day”
As part of the IGI Foundation Day celebrations, the School of Information Technology (SOIT) and Indira College of Commerce and Science (ICCS) organized a community outreach initiative with visits to Mai Bhavan and Kalashram orphanages. With active participation from students and faculty members, generous contributions were collected and used to provide essential grocery items, fruits, and sweets to the residents.
The visits brought immense joy to the beneficiaries, which included 26 blind girls and 13 differently-abled children at Mai Bhavan, as well as 90 children and 5 elderly individuals at Kalashram. These interactions not only supported the residents but also left a deep emotional impact on students and staff, fostering empathy, compassion, and a sense of social responsibility.
Guided by Prof. Sumit Sasane and Prof. Vinayak More, the initiative aimed to promote inclusivity, encourage community engagement, and strengthen the bond between educational institutions and society. Through this meaningful experience, students developed greater awareness of diversity while nurturing values of civic responsibility and personal growth.
This noble effort reflects ICCS’s commitment to holistic education and community welfare, ensuring that academic celebrations also serve as an opportunity to give back to society. These visits not only provided immediate relief to the needy but also fostered a deeper understanding of the challenges faced by underprivileged sections of society. The interactions were filled with stories and shared moments that transcended barriers, highlighting the importance of empathy and social responsibility. Such initiatives play a crucial role in bridging societal gaps and promoting inclusivity, ensuring that every individual, regardless of their circumstances, feels valued and supported.
On the occasion of the Foundation Day Celebration on 5th September 2025 at Indira, the School of Information Technology and Indira College of Commerce and Science organized a Blood Donation Camp in association with Yashwantrao Chavan Memorial Hospital (YCM), Pimpri-Chinchwad.
The objective of this initiative was to foster a sense of social responsibility and to raise awareness about the vital role of blood donation in saving lives. Faculty members, students, and staff were encouraged to participate voluntarily and contribute to this noble cause. This initiative not only addressed the critical need for blood in local hospitals but also fostered a spirit of social responsibility among the campus community.
The camp was conducted under the guidance of Prof. Sumit Sasane, Prof. Rajminar Navgire, and Prof. Ramdas Bolage, in collaboration with the dedicated team of doctors and staff from YCM Hospital.
This collaborative effort underscored our commitment to community welfare and provided an opportunity for everyone to make a meaningful difference. In addition to the immediate impact of collecting valuable blood donations, the camp served as a platform to educate participants about the significance of voluntary blood donation. Through informative sessions and interactions with medical professionals, attendees gained a deeper understanding of how their contributions could save lives. The success of this camp reflects the power of collective action and has set a precedent for future endeavors aimed at making a positive impact on society.
The collaboration with YCM Hospital ensured the camp’s adherence to medical standards, providing a safe and efficient environment for donors.
