From August 11th to 19th, 2025, the School of Information Technology (SOIT) hosted its induction program, “Orbit,” marking the commencement of an exciting academic journey for new students. This week-long event was meticulously crafted to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of their academic path, career prospects, and holistic development opportunities.
SOIT hosted an exhilarating One-Day OMT, blending physical agility with mental prowess. The games like Twist-O-Math, Hockey Hustle & Hole Roll, Bootcamp Blast, Bucket Legs, and Relay Rumble fostered teamwork, strategy, and fun among all participants. The event showcased the power of collaboration and creative problem-solving. It was a day filled with energy, laughter, and unforgettable memories.
In a series of enlightening sessions led by distinguished industry experts, Ms. Swati Vajpayee, a specialist in GRC (Security and Privacy), initiated the program by discussing career opportunities in the ever-evolving tech landscape. Following Ms. Vajpayee, Dr. Varsha S. Rai, a renowned Clinical Nutritionist and Dietitian, took the stage to present “Power Up with Nutrition: The Right Diet for Good Health.” Her session underscored the critical role of nutrition in maintaining optimal health, particularly for students navigating the challenges of academic life.
Ms. Madhuri Sathe, Advisor for Corporate Relations at IGI & IU, then addressed the students on “Placement Guidance by Corporate Cell.” She outlined the support mechanisms in place to assist students in securing internships and job placements, highlighting the importance of proactive engagement with the Corporate Cell to maximize career opportunities. Dr. Ashutosh Misal, Director of Indian Knowledge Systems (IKS) at Indira University, delivered a thought-provoking session on “Shaping the Future with IKS and Sustainability.” He explored the integration of traditional Indian knowledge systems with contemporary sustainability practices.
The induction program also featured a session on examination protocols and the New Education Policy (NEP), conducted by Dr. Punam Bhoyar, NEP Director at IU, and Dr. Santosh Kulkarni, Exam Controller. Dr. Shikha Sindhu, Controller of Examinations and Dean of IQAC – IU, gave an insightful session on “Soft Skills Essentials: Building Strong Foundations.” She emphasized the importance of soft skills in shaping effective professionals. Ms. Poonam Samir Chimbalkar, a Senior Corporate Yoga Consultant, led a rejuvenating session titled “The Harmony Hour”, guiding the students through yoga and mindfulness practices to lower stress and promote mental clarity.
Mr. Piyush Waghade, Chief Coach and Founder of Shaurya Martial Arts and Self Defence in Pune, conducted an empowering workshop on “Build a Safety Shield: An Awareness Session for Girl Students.” Mr. Waghade introduced students to practical techniques for personal safety, empowering them to take proactive steps in safeguarding themselves.
Dr. Dipanjay Bhalerao, Director Incubation Centre & Startup Mentor – Swakiyam Foundation for Incubation and Innovation, delivered an inspiring session titled “Own the Journey: Swakiyam.” Dr. Bhalerao encouraged students to consider entrepreneurship and foster a mindset of continuous growth and adaptability.
Mr. Abhishek Datta, a Senior Solutions Associate at ZS Associates, followed with a session on “Evolving Technologies in IT.” He provided an overview of the latest technological advancements, highlighting their impact on the IT industry. Ankit Singh, a professional associated with Quorum Software, then presented on “Data Science and Its Applications.” He delved into the fundamentals of data science, explaining its relevance across various sectors.
Ms. Nupur Singh, a Corporate Trainer, conducted a session on “Structured Goal Setting and Participant Onboarding.” She introduced students to effective goal-setting techniques, emphasizing the significance of setting clear and achievable objectives. Ms. Tini Antony, an Infrastructure Specialist at NICE Systems, spoke on “Getting Started in the IT Industry: Basics and Future Trends.” She outlined the foundational knowledge required to enter the IT industry, covering essential concepts and skills.
Ms. Sadiya Pathan, a Senior Engineer at Druva Data Solutions, addressed the “Importance of Soft Skills.” Ms. Pathan discussed the critical role of soft skills in professional success, encouraging students to develop these competencies alongside their technical abilities. Mr. Saurebh Baviskar, a Founder, Inventor, and Global Mentor, delivered a session on “Intellectual Property Rights (IPR).” He provided an overview of IPR, discussed various forms of intellectual property, and the processes involved in securing them.
Beyond the academic sessions, the induction program incorporated engaging activities to foster camaraderie among students. Dance performances added a cultural flair to the event, showcasing the diverse talents within the student body. Additionally, ice-breaking games were organized to facilitate interaction and help students build connections, setting a positive tone for the collaborative learning environment at SOIT.
In conclusion, the “Orbit” induction program was a resounding success, equipping students with the knowledge, resources, and motivation to embark on their academic and professional journeys. It not only provided essential information but also created a vibrant community spirit, ensuring that students felt welcomed, informed, and inspired as they began their time at SOIT.
